Staying Peachy: My Trek to Rendleman Orchards

I count myself blessed to live in the same place my ancestors settled over 200 years ago. Just a short drive south of my hometown are rolling hills and fertile fields. Each time I make the drive, I realize why my ancestors chose here to settle and build their lives and families.

This region is home to many centennial farms and orchards. One of my favorites is Rendleman Orchards in Alto Pass, Illinois. While they have peaches, apricots, and apples in season at their market, they offer a true experience to the visitor.

Rendleman Orchards

John and Isabelle Rendleman started Rendleman Orchards in 1873 with 88 acres of land. The orchard is still owned and operated by the family – 6 generations later – and it encompasses over 800 acres.

Give Me All the Goats!

As you enter the farm market from the north, you will be greeted – sort of – by goats. Several of the cutest little goats you will ever see. You can’t feed the goats, but you can pet them! They are fun to watch, too.

This is my kiddo … she LOVES animals!

The goats were pretty animated the day we were visiting! If you really love goats, you can buy a “Gimme all the Goats!” T-shirt and a few plush goats from the market.

Peaches are in Season

During peach season – June through August – you will find 12 different varieties at Rendleman Orchards. You can also find a wide variety of product made with these peaches including BBQ sauce, peach butter, ice cream, and salad dressings.

For those of you who like desserts but not baking, have no fear. You can also purchase mixes for peach crisp!

When you visit, make sure you get a peach smoothie. They are the absolute best ever. Of course, I might be a bit biased, but I can’t leave without one!

Farm T-Shirts

In the last few years, Rendleman Orchards has begun selling softest, most comfortable t-shirts with cute farm-related saying and graphics. These aren’t just any t-shit, however. A portion from the sales of the “FARM” tee helps support local food pantries.

I’m a frequent customer and I buy a new tee nearly every time I’m at the market. It’s an addiction! This year, they started selling related hats and my daughter decided she needs a collection of them, sooooo … it’s another addiction!

Take time to visit – it’s a great day trip. If you have time to spend a weekend, there are more orchards and farms to discover, along with wineries and breweries. We have amazing BBQ, too, but that’s another story altogether!

Rendleman Orchards is located at 9680 State Highway 127 N. in Alto Pass, Illinois. Their phone number is (618) 893-2771.
