Pimento Cheese Wontons

My girlfriends and I took a weekend trek to Tennessee to visit part of the whiskey trail. On a weekend trek, we only managed to get to two distilleries!

We were in the Fayetteville area the weekend of their Host of Christmas Past event and spent time wandering the town square eating from every food truck we could. There was a lot of great food available, but one food truck caught my eye – Floyd’s Farm Food Truck.

Floyd’s Farm Food Truck

Floyd’s Farm Food Truck is colorful … which made it pop out from the rest of the food vendors. They use local ingredients from their own farm and from other local producers – and their food is fantastic!

If I lived closer, I’d be a loyal fan, that’s for sure.

Alas, I’m two states away and can only dream about the utter deliciousness that is produced in that tiny truck and delivered with a smile from the owners.

They are the epitome of eat and shop local. By working with other local producers, they’re helping sustain family-run and small businesses in their own backyard. We need more partnerships like this, especially from our younger generations (of which, sadly, I am no longer).

Southern Wontons

I fell in love the day I met the food truck. Their Southern Wontons are the perfect blend of classically southern pimento cheese and Asian wontons – simply two of my favorite food groups. Yes, I consider them food groups!

Southern Wontons

They use local small batch pimento cheese from Daddy Bob’s which is delightful on its own. We loved it so much that we tracked down a local grocer that carried the pimento cheese so we could carry some home!

They fold the wontons like little envelopes and deep fry them. Then the wontons drizzled with honey and sour cream and sprinkled with chives. Each bite was a sweetly savory joy.

Yep, I fell in love.

Air Fryer to the Rescue!

I have missed Southern Wontons. So, just like any good foodie, I set out to make my own version at home in an attempt to recreate that tasty bite I had in Fayetteville, Tennessee.

Of course, these aren’t the real thing … and not anywhere near as good … but until I can get back to the Volunteer State, these will have to suffice. Unless, of course, Floyd’s Farm decides to branch out?!

I created these to cook in an air fryer – which is my new favorite kitchen tool! I also used the Davis family pimento cheese recipe.

This recipe is inspired by Floyd’s Farm Food Truck and cooked in an air fryer.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup pimento cheese

  • 24 wonton wrappers

  • Water to seal the wrappers

  • Olive oil spritzer or cooking spray

Directions

  • Preheat your air fryer to 375°F.
  • Lay the wonton wrappers out on a flat surface – you may need to work in batches.
  • Place about one teaspoon of pimento cheese in the center of the wonton wrapper.
  • Using your fingertips, wet the edges of the wrapper, then fold opposite corners up until they touch and repeat with the remaining corners. Press the corners together until they seal, using more water if necessary.
  • Place the wontons in a single layer in the air fryer basket, spritz with olive oil, and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  • Serve with Asian sweet chili sauce for dipping. Serve immediately.
