Murphysboro Farmers’ Market
I will be hosting cooking demonstrations at the Murphysboro, Illinois Farmers’ Market two Saturdays a month this season! This is definitely something that has been on my bucket list. I enjoy helping folks learn what to do with our local produce which, in turn, entices them to shop and eat local.
I am very blessed to have help from friends and family to make this happen. Our local businesses are on board, too! Schwebel Printing in Murphysboro is printing all out recipe cards to give out to market customers.
The market focuses on local food and products made from local foods. You won’t find any trinkets or other non-food related items at this market. From produce to meat and event popcorn, it will be easy to get pretty much anything you need for a week’s meals. So, if you’re local, stop by and check us out – we even have live music!
The first market was on May 18th and we had a great turn out. The vendors nearly sold out of the items we demonstrated – which is the idea, of course. I cooked my dad’s favorite wilted lettuce salad with hot bacon dressing and everyone who stopped by told me their mom or grandma used to make it and they hadn’t had it in years!
Incidentally, I think I am related to nearly everyone who was at the market that day. When you live in the same area your ancestors settled over 200 years ago, there aren’t many folks you won’t be related to!
